About LEED for Neighborhood Development
The LEED for Neighborhood Development Rating System integrates the principles of smart growth, urbanism, and green building into the first national standard for neighborhood design. LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a development's location and design meet accepted high standards for environmentally responsible, sustainable development.
LEED for Neighborhood Development is a collaboration between the U.S. Green Building Council, the Congress for the New Urbanism, and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
What does this mean?
Sustainable Fellwood will be a livable and enjoyable neighborhood which is environmentally responsible, while providing energy efficient housing for all residents.

EarthCraft Communities
A number of important features separate an EarthCraft Community from conventional developments. These include an emphasis on walkability, which creates interaction within the community and its surroundings. Developers of EarthCraft Communities will initiate environmentally sustainable practices for site and building development, setting the stage for future resource conservation. These practices include methods for preventing pollution, both during construction and occupancy of the built environment and use of the land.
A major tenet of all EarthCraft programs is the implementation of integrated planning, bringing all decision makers and stakeholders, including those involved surrounding communities, to the table for the design process. EarthCraft Communities expands this concern dramatically by involving an even wider range of planning, design and construction professionals. Again, like all EarthCraft programs, from single family houses to the multifamily program, third-party verification ensures that the highest standards are met on all areas of the development.
The criteria for EarthCraft is set up and managed by the Southface Energy Institute in Atlanta.
